We updated the classic Pa'tridge to make our nylon upland hunting vest, with breathable, water-repellent and snag-resistant fabric and redesigned pocketing to better organize your hunt.
We started with highly water-repellent briar-turning nylon that resists tears and snags and added features hunters love to make this nylon upland hunting vest a great value. Its roomy fit allows you to work your gun easily, and we've added and redesigned the pockets to organize shells, valuables, eyeglasses, and, of course, game.
- 100% nylon shell. 100% polyester mesh lining.
- Spot clean.
- Pockets on hips securely hold water bottles.
- Removable, see-through waterproof security pocket inside.
- Bloodproof front-loading game pouch zips open to lie flat for easy cleaning.

Way too small.
There was not enough room under this vest for a heavy shirt. Let alone winter clothing. Way smaller than other LL Bean products I own. I usually am between XL and XXL in everything I wear. This XXL would botton over a Tee shirt but I could not wear over a heavy shirt or sweater during hunting season. Also, the buttons are a soft rubber and the button holes are slightly small making buttoning and unbuttoning next to impossible. I am very disappointed as have waited on getting this garment for over a year due to stocking issues.
The quality of the product was great except for the already mentioned issues. I have returned the vest for credit.

Shell pocket design.
Very well made and durable. My only complaint is that the shell pockets are too small and a little difficult to access. One side of the flap is sewed down making it hard to reach into. It should just use two buttons to keep the flap closed. Other than that it’s great.

Sizing runs small
The best seemed very high quality but the sizing ran small. A 2Xl is for the most part very roomy for me. This was snug with only wearing a t shirt underneath it. Therefore it was returned.

Hunting Vest
Nice vest. Buttons can be hard to button. A zipper or even snaps might be easier. Probably with wearing, buttoning will loosen up and be easier. Doesn't have any handwarmer pockets.

Excelllent product
This vest has the best design features on the market today. The workmanship is excellent. Pricing is very fair. Had a model without the orange applications been available, I would have chosen that one. The only thing I would change would be the buttons. The hard plastic military style button, as used on the "Partridge Vest", slide through the button holes better. They are easy to operate one handed. These rubber buttons bend and are more difficult to work with. Now with that said; for fit, function, design, workmanship and price, this is the best product available, at this time.

Very good quality
I originally posted a fairly unfavorable review on the waxed cotton version of this vest. It turns out i'm just not a fan of waxed cotton garments, and not the vest itself. This nylon vest is a lot better in my opinion. Vests are inherently warm weather garments, and the nylon material of this vest breaths much better than waxed cotton. Also, i've come to really like the button's on the vest, and the arrangement of the pockets. It holds a generous amount of shotgun cartridges, and it is capable of holding a lot of gear without looking like the ugly modern technical vests on the market. Overall I really like this vest, and its traditional good looks.

Nice but not big enough
I bought this vest for my son in law in XXL because he wears an XL coat thought it would go over his hunting coat for cold weather pheasant hunt. When he tried it on over just a sweater it was too tight. Would never go over a hunting coat. Real nice design but to small for big guys to use in cold weather

I bought the vest because I left my other vest in Michigan (I am a snow bird spending six months in Arizona). I used the vest to go dove hunting in the second season, and after about five weeks of hunting almost every day, I feel I can comment favorably about the vest. It is extremely comfortable to wear - I didn't notice that I was wearing it. The game pouches are wonderful, not only for doves but perfect for pheasants or grouse too. The vest provides a bit of warmth - that is, it is not just a thin vest with pockets. It might be too warm for Arizona during the first dove season (September, when it is still in the 100s), but it would be perfect for fall hunting of grouse and pheasants in Michigan, South Dakota, etc. The pockets for holding shot shells are deep, and the pocket lip assures that no shells are lost. On the other hand , they are a little hard to retrieve shells when trying to re-load quickly. Overall, I like the LLBean pockets better than some vests where it is easier to retrieve shells but also too easy to lose them. There are a couple of elastic shot shell holders in each pocket but I didn't use these; I placed a box of shells into the pocket and retrieved shells directly form the box. The buttons are odd, in my experience, but I have come to like them very much. The button itself is somewhat pliable - they bend a bit. The bending makes it easier to push the button through the rather tight button hole. The end result is a tight-latched button that won't come out. The buttons are not sewed on as usual buttons, but are held by a strap of cloth. I think the buttons will stay on for years, but of course I have only had the vest for 4-5 weeks so I cannot say that based on fact. It seems that one could wear the vest a second way by reversing it, but I have not tried that. I do not know if it repels water because it hasn't rained here in the desert. In summary, it fits very well, is very comfortable, it seems very well made and I expect it will last longer than me (now 70 yrs old).

Great quality vest; useful features
This vest is a great quality product that was built with the practical needs of an upland hunter in mind. Sturdy material, but not too heavy, well placed pockets, etc. The way the game pouch opens up and lays flat for cleaning is great. The only improvement suggestion I have is to provide an option for an all orange vest (or at least a greater proportion in orange) to ensure the vest complies with the requirements in some states so users don't have to wear an additional vest to meet the minimum requirements.

I've already got many days in this vest. The bad: Fabric is heavy, which makes it hot and dry slower. Not optimal if you're a Southern quail hunter. My last vest was lighter and lasted 40 yrs. The good: Everything else. Very well thought out in terms of pocket design, fastenings etc. Sizing is appropriate. I'm experienced in the field and have some background in product design. This vest was put together by thoughtful people who have been out there.

Love it but watch the size
The Men's Double L Nylon Hunting Vest is a thing of wonder. I love it. Pockets for all the stuff you need and just a couple of extras.
The buttons are a little stiff but I would rather have that than buttons that keep popping open on you. Besides, how many times a day do you work the buttons on your vest? Not many for me.
My one significant complaint, the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is the sizing.
I don't know what pattern they use for XXL but is not the right one. My vest is snug. XXXL is not a choice. I comfortably wear XL or XXL for every other coat, vest or shirt I own. This "fits" but 5 more pounds of weight and it won't. I'll be looking for button extenders. For those of you wondering...I'm 6'1"; 226 lbs.

A Better Vest

Comfortable all day long
I have hunted wearing this vest for the past five upland seasons. It has served me very well. True to size, free range of motion, ease of access to game pouch,water bottle pockets, shell pockets. I liked how this vest functioned I purchased the same vest for my three sons to wear while we are hunting.
The hunter safety orange has faded slightly over the years but there are no other signs of wear. The vest is easy to clean. I do hope LL Bean keeps this vest available it is a true value in upland game hunting garments. At one time the vest was made available in total hunter safety orange it would be nice if this option was made available again.

Best ever upland vest. All the bases are covered.
I've gone through a lot of upland vests over my 50+ years in the field.....and this is the best of the best. Comfortable. Durable. Fantastic design that lends itself so well to upland hunting. Pockets for everything. The button suspension closure adds so much to the comfort....and allows keeping the bottom open for high stepping or cartridge retrieval from a belt. Water bottles. Transmitters. Lunch/snacks. Extra clothes (or room to store excess clothes). All fit in this vest......including game, should you be so lucky. I highly recommend this vest.
