Love the look & warmth, but some functional flaws
Got this coat a few months ago and wanted to road-test it a bit before leaving a review. Let me start by saying that overall, I love this coat. Aesthetically, it's fantastic, and it's easily my favorite looking coat I've gotten from LL Bean (and that's saying a lot, as I've been an LL Bean winter coat advocate for years). It's also super warm, and it's handled this year's outlandishly cold weather with aplomb.
That said, there are a couple of odd design/function choices that bring the rating down for me. First is the hood. For some reason, the hood is connected by super flimsy snaps that disconnect if you look at them wrong -- making it so you can't hang the coat by the hood (they all unsnap) or make adjustments to your head/neck gear while in the winter weather (they all unsnap). This could have been easily fixed by having it attach via zipper, and I'm not sure why they didn't just do that.
Next, is the center zipper. It's pretty weak by winter coat standards, and it has a tendency to drift downward, especially if I'm wearing a bulky sweatshirt underneath it. I find myself periodically pulling it back up, even on short walks with the dog, etc.
By all rights, this should have been a five star review, and I wish it was. Love the coat, but the flaws leave me scratching my head.

Soft & warm
Best winter coat I've had in many years. Looks great & has kept me very comfortable through the recent arctic weather in NY State. The hood is roomy so it's easy to wear almost any type of cap under it.

You get what you pay for
I needed to replace a very nice waist length wall coat that I have had for 30 years. Went with a couple cheaper brands and sent them both back. Absolutely love my new corduroy downfilled. The hood is nicely functional, and I find the coat to be very warm and a perfect fit. I now have three L.L. Bean coats in my arsenal.

Wonderful warm jacket, and very good looking too!
This is a great winter jacket for the 42nd latitude--perfect for walking the dog, shoveling the driveway and pretty much any other wintertime activity. It's very warm, and the detachable hood is also very warm and protects from the elements quite well. Finally, it's a nice looking jacket to boot.
