Great shirt, runs really BIG
The color of this shirt is amazing, reminds me of a hunting shirt my dad had when I was a kid. The weight is perfect for what I was looking for and should be great for layering in Northern California.
Word of caution: it runs really big. Luckily I read some of the reviews before purchasing and ordered a size down. I usually get a medium but went with the small. Even the small is roomy enough for layering underneath and the length seems extra long.
Also, some handwarmer pockets would have been nice. Not a dealbreaker since I really love this shirt but that would have been a bonus.
Overall very happy with this purchase.

instantaneous heat
If you get up in the middle of the night, put this wool shirt on. Just the right amount of open fibers to allow your body vapor to create a robust exothermic reaction: instantaneous heat. This shirt is amazing--well built, warm, warm, warm. I hope LL Bean keeps making this shirt forever.

Still going at 40 years!
My dad bought me this guide shirt for Christmas in 1985 and sent it to me in Amsterdam. This shirt has camped and hiked all over Europe and North America, sailed wooden boats from Ireland to the Eastern Baltic, and kept me warm all those years. A little bit worn at the cuffs and elbows now but still holding up strong - even has the original buttons! That’s true New England quality. Coming time for a new one … tho I imagine I will still wear the first one for a while to come.

Poor copies of US made originals.
I bought this to add to my other guide shirt. The sizing is all screwed up between the two stitching on the black and red shirt is poor. The material is not as good as the original. There originals are made in the US current shirts are made in Viet Nam. Over priced junk.

This is what he wanted
Great colors. Heavy and wool, just what my husband was looking for. While normally a large, this was returned for a medium. Plenty of room.

Great shirt
This is a great shirt wish it came in some solid colors and would prefer it to be 100 % wool. Other than that great quality and is really warm
