Not Quite What I Wanted, . . . .
I would say these shorts are “OK,” but not great. I was at a week-long music camp this past August, when I realized that I forgot to pack my L.L. Bean all cotton, and fairly heavy-weight, shorts — I have four pairs, and only had the pair I was wearing for the first day or two. Fortunately, I was staying at a hotel in Bethesda, MD that is literally across the street from an L.L. Bean store (at the Pike & Rose shopping district). The store did not have the shorts I was hoping to find (similar to what I had left behind). But these, the only kind the store had, had to do. I bought two — one in a very nice dark hunter green and the other in a nondescript slate color. They are “fine,” and served my need, but they are kind of short (7” versus a more ideal 9” or 10”), . . . too short for my need or want, with the effect that (in addition to just looking a bit “off” for a 63-year-old man), if you have anything in your front pockets (and I am one who uses a front pocket wallet on one side, and having a handkerchief, a tuner, and a capo on the other), and you are sitting, the pockets creep out from under the legs, and hang like kind-of-dippy looking bags emerging from the bottom of one’s shorts. I don’t dislike them, per se, but they were not really what I was hoping to find, and I am just not all that fond of the “cut” of them, literally.
