Too much plastic
It's my fault for not reading the fabric components, but it's also a shame that I have to. I've been shopping at L.L. Bean for decades, preferring 100% cotton, wool, and silk. Unless I have a specific need for technical, wicking garments (and even then I prefer wool), I don't like plastic against my skin. It seems that Bean is transitioning toward fabrics with higher percentages of polyester and lyrcra, as these shorts contain only 59% cotton. Yes, these felt super soft out of the bag, but based on 38% polyester, they will pill and feel rough within a wash or two and won't last more than one season before looking ratty. Returned.

my favorite shorts of all time.
I have multiple pairs of these and a couple colors and I hope they stay warm because I kind of live in these. Simply the most comfortable shorts ever

Perfect Lounge Shorts
These shorts have quickly become the most favorite lounge shorts that I've ever owned. I call them "lounge shorts", because that is what I bought them for, but I could see using them on a walk around the neighborhood, or a quick trip to the grocery store. They are very well made, and the fabric used is very soft and very comfortable. No back pocket is a plus for me (I don't need one) so note to the design team...don't change anything about the design of these shorts!
I only gave the shorts 4 stars, because they are a bit overpriced...even on sale, and I would like to have a few more color choices. Please add a few more color choices (sage green, olive green, port) and I will be back for more of these great shorts. But ONLY if I can catch them on a good sale. The normal retail price of the shorts, $59.99, is WAY too much to pay for shorts that I use as lounge shorts. I paid $39.99 a piece (bought 5 pair) and that is the most that I EVER paid for lounge shorts. The shorts were somewhat of a splurge for me.
Size wise, the medium shorts fit me perfectly. I am 6' 180 lbs and usually wear a 32" waist.
