I usually wash everything I buy now before I wear it. I washed this sweater using mild detergent and following the directions to the letter, including laying flat to dry and using a special rack for drying sweaters this way. The fabric pilled up and in one case I noticed a distinct snag in the material. It also appeared to have shrunk slightly but that won't be a problem because it was kind of loose to begin with. I ordered a medium and it seems smaller in width although the length is still fine. I will keep it because I have already washed it and I really like the color. But it is not up to the quality I would expect from this company. LL Bean is not alone in this--the quality of clothing in this country has declined rapidly over the last several years as the prices increase. Time to stop buying clothes.
