Unexpectedly Fantastic reel
Got the smallest reel. "Unexpectedly" because I've never bought FF gear from LL Bean. I regularly splurge on expensive rods/reels, some are around and above 1K. Needed another small reel for my wt 2 & 3, which I don't fish that often.
The reel is very smooth, very pleasant. I really love the design - modern, yet simple. Some of the modern reels designs are ugly-futuristic. I will be ordering another reel/spare pool in the same small size for a backup, that's how much I loved this reel.
The reel case is also fantastic. I am unhappy with the modern reels that come with the neoprene pouch, sometimes can't even squeeze the reel in (Yes even for the reels that are close to 1K). This one has a generous classic case, with a pocket on the back.
The overall value is also good because the spare spools are readily available. I bought tons of reels in the past (the same ones) just because spare spools are not available (although are manufactured).
The product screams understated beauty and quality. Glad I bought it.

Very fine reel for not much money.
This reel has features found on much more expensive reels. Extremely light weight. Easy removal of the spool for quick line changes, economical spools, easy conversion from left to right hand retrieve. Very smooth and powerful drag. My size 3 reel shown below has 125 yards of 30lb backing and Guidelines Bullet Taper 8wt line. Note the line spec written on the spool nut with fine Sharpie. It does not come off in water, but does wipe off the smooth anodized finish with alcohol. Comes with very nice canvas case.

Smooth drag
I was looking for bluegills with my 5 wt. when a big bass decided to swallow my fly. It gave me quite a tussle--three or four big runs and a couple jumps. Throughout the catch, my new reel performed admirably--smooth, easy to adjust drag that made it possible to land the fish despite the light leader I was using. I work for LL Bean in retail and could have gone higher up the line, but all the good reviews convinced me to buy the Streamlight reel for my excellent Silver Ghost rod. Thank you, folks, you were right!

Great reel -great price!
One of the best reels I own! I own 5 others and this is the one I have been using this year ! One other fisherman wanted to know what brand and the price ! I told him and he was shocked at the quality and price !

Very adequate
I just got the reel and have used it twice. It’s light and functions well. Had a lady fish take out line and the drag seemed smooth and functioned well. For a hundred dollar reel it’s just what I needed

What a Fly Reel Should Be
Wow, this really changes my game. Just very well made and a very quiet drag - one of my main reasons for getting this model. Additionally the drag is super easy to adjust, even when you have a fish on. I put 5 weight on the #2 size which required a surprising amount of backing. Could probably have done just as well getting the smaller size.

Excellent reel
I built my own Sage rod and wanted a stylish, well made, solid reel for it. I looked at many reels, most were way too much money. I liked the black streamlight reels but wanted a reel to match the chrome reel seats and guides. Then i found out that Bean had come out with a silver Streamlight Ultra reel. I bought it and an extra spool. Couldn't be happier. I love this reel!!

Light reel, good drag

The Streamlite Ultra reels (2) were as expected from LL Bean. I am planning on giving to grandchildren. Economical and flawless. And I really looked for scratches and rough edges.

Solid Reel

Not usable
Tried to convert the reel to right hand retrieve was unable to loosen screw to change from left to right like it's welded in.

I purchased the #3 reel for fishing for freshwater bass with an 8 weight fly rod. The reel has several nice design features: 1. It has adequate capacity for either an 8 or 9 weight floating line and plenty of 30 pound backing. 2. It is very light in weight. 3. The drag control knob is large and easy to grip and adjust. 4. The drag has a wide range of settings. 5. It's easy to change spools with the screw style spool release mechanism. There are no loose parts that could be lost; the screw mechanism stays attached to the spool. 6. The cut-outs in the spool reduces weight and allows line and backing to dry faster. Overall it is a well designed reel and a very good value.

Bought one of each of the reels and have used them a couple of months and I am very happy with the purchase. Was looking for a reel that was tight in its fittings, had a drag that worked, was balanced on the rod and did not cost over $500, I found it.. Caught fish on all three reels and no problems. The redo on this model by Bean was quite an improvement. I will buy another one for my grandson

Great Reel!
Purchased the size #3 and spare reel for my 8 weight rod. Has worked very well. Impressed with the drag, worked great on Kings in SW Alaska.
Very well machined, seems of equal quality to more expensive Lamson reels I own.
Would absolutely recommend this.

Great Value, ideal for bass
The #3 version of this reel is a good match with an 8 weight rod and floating 8 weight line. The weight of the reel is light for the size. The drag is easy to adjust while fishing. I've been fishing with it for 4 months now and am very happy. I purchased the extra spool and have found it easy to switch as well.
