Gold standard
L.L. Bean has set the standard with book bags for years. An L.L. Bean bag is always going to be great quality and durability. My little is starting kindergarten, great print/color options, quality, durability, and personalization were my reasons for purchasing. Never disappointed by an L.L. Bean product. (Got the matching lunchbox as well)

Impressive longevity and durability
My 10 year old son has been using this backpack for almost 6 years and it is still going strong. He often overpacks it, throws it on the floor of the bus and the gym and it is well used but is still going strong. The zipper works, it's showing minimal wear and the reflective part is still effective. We joke that this will likely get him from kindergarten to graduation.

This backpack has lasted for years!
I bought this backpack for my child over four years ago, and it still looks new. I’m honestly not exaggerating. It survived daycare and is doing well during Kindergarten, and I think it may last for next year.
Clearly the strap complaints must be defects because I have never had issues with the straps nor zippers. Best backpack ever for a very reasonable price. I plan to buy a new one when this one finally dies. Just hope that L.L Bean has not changed the way these packs are made!

Reflective strip gets damaged easily
I don’t know why so many great reviews about this backpack when the reflective strip on the backpack gets scratched up/damaged easily (within 2 months on both the original and junior size). Had I known this would be an issue I would not have bought this backpack (two of them!) I paid more for these backpacks expecting quality from this brand but clearly looks bad. Kids will drop their backpacks onto the ground so this material should not have been used. There was no guarantee that I would get a refund if I shipped it so I just kept it.
