Our classic casual coat is easy to move in and layer under. With little touches like inverted pleats and buttoned patch pockets it's no surprise this coat continues to be a customer favorite, year after year. Inspired by our iconic Field Coat (originally named Maine Duck Hunting Coat), first introduced in 1924.

What I was looking for
I was looking for a field coat that looks fairly similar to the British waxed cotton coats but isn’t actually waxed cotton. This barn coat in Loden was what I was looking for! It’s warm, rugged, looks tailored and sharp, and it’s not bulky. I’m 5’1 and 125 pounds. I usually get regular medium, but purchased the petite medium because that’s what LL Bean recommended. That size was too narrow in the shoulders and the arms were too short. I ended up donating that coat to a clothing assistance charity and I repurchased it in regular small, which fits perfectly. My only suggestions are to give it metal buttons instead of plastic buttons and add a two-way zipper. That would make it even classier. Overall, I would definitely recommend the coat. Consider going down one size.

Fabulous fall jacket
Love it - it’s cozy and comfortable and I have gotten so many positive comments. The perfect jacket for fall days in the country. I am 5’4” and the regular was overpowering, so I went with the petite and it is perfect.

Fall Coat - nothing to dislike!
The Barn Jacket has classic styling, sturdy fabric, and is very well made. This jacket will take me up until our colder winter temperatures hit. The Barn Jacket is idea for general errand running, casual meet-ups, and walking our dog. There is plenty of room for layering underneath If I choose to, and the sizing is spot on - LL Bean is very accurate on sizing information and this jacket adheres to their accurate sizing policy.
