Our iconic Maine-made Boat and Tote, now in an open-top size for tote lovers! Similar to our Small tote, but taller, with handles that fit comfortably over your shoulder. Still crafted in Maine, one tote at a time.
Introduced as Bean's Ice Carrier way back in 1944, the Boat and Tote was billed as a bag made of builders' canvas for hauling ice "from car to ice chest." Today you can spot our iconic tote doing heavy lifting everywhere - from the grocery store to the beach, to the library and commuter train. Tested to hold up to 500 pounds, it'll carry more than you can carry. We promise.

Great Bag - Awkward Size
I wanted to love this bag so much... but the sizing was just awkward. The straps were a good size (and bigger than the normal boat and tote straps), but it was still hard to keep on my shoulder. If you wanted to get something out of your bag while you had it on your shoulder you will most likely need to take it off your shoulder. I really liked the depth of the bag and I bet it would fit a lot but I think the small with long handles will be a better fit for me. I will say the quality of these bags are amazing and they feel like they will last forever

A NEW Boat & Tote
I’ve used Boat & Totes for many years for a variety of uses. Each task had its own tote which helped with organization. But after retirement my needs changed; the medium totes were too big and the small was not big enough, The small/tall tote solved my problem, while still as sturdy and well-constructed as its big brothers. Eureka!

I bought this a few weeks ago because it was available with zero wait. I have been loving this bag! I have all the other sizes except the regular small. This bag fits my 13” iPad Pro, journals, books, and pouches with room to spare. The straps are perfect for over the shoulder carry, even when the bag is full. The medium bag is much wider than this bag, I prefer the slim look.

the tall is perfect for drinks !!!!
I bought this to carry my drinks to work. My hands are always carrying my coffee yeti mug and my water yeti bottle. Both of which are too tall to fit in my lunch box. This tote is the perfect size to carry both. I’m so happy they made a tall version, it fits my tall drinks perfect. So happy.
