Terrible new version of the Super Deluxe!!!
I don't know who decided to change the Super Deluxe book bag, but it was a huge mistake! LL Bean is known for their consistent book bag styles through the years - NO reason to change it! First of all, this isn't a Super Deluxe 41L book bag anymore....it's now 38L. This book bag is AWFUL with the side zipper laptop pocket. The original Super Deluxe 41L bag had two really big main zippered compartments. It was SO perfect for my high schoolers. My kids have SO much stuff and different special needs. Having two large compartments was perfect to separate certain things, and give them room to find the items. This new book bag is not user friendly. Who wants just one big compartment and a side padded section they probably won't use? At least you got rid of the mesh water bottle holders on the side. The straps aren't as comfortable either. Such a huge disappointment. I buy new colors every year. This will be the first time in awhile I am not buying one. My kids use this for school, camps, and so many other things. The two big compartments were important to have. I also have a lot of the 37L book bags. Seriously, customers need to just save $20 and buy the Deluxe 37L with the two big compartments. Even the front pockets and compartments aren't as good. Also, why is there no red color? All your other book bags have red as a choice. Why is there no red color for the Super Deluxe? Also, have some more simple print choices for teen boys. I guess we will have to buy the Deluxe 37L if my kids want another color. I even use the Super Deluxe 41L bags for travel and day trips. All larger book bags have at least two main compartments. Makes no sense this has one. Please, please, please bring back the original style Super Deluxe 41L. This bag is just AWFUL!

Bring back the super deluxe 41L
The straps are too rigid and it does not hold all his textbooks like the old 41L did for my oldest teen. High schoolers need more room for textbooks and the 41L was perfect for that. This is no better than the 38L and definitely worse than my old LL Bean backpacks from the 90’s and early 2000’s.. If you’re debating, get the 38L for $20 less.

No problems here!
I like the new felt pocket for glasses and phone and also the less complicated layout of the backpack. I dislike backpacks with too many slots and pockets and hidden accesses. I never use them all and it overcomplicates the organization. I had no problem fitting my computer into the back slot and I also fit my computer lap desk which is even larger than the computer. Not sure why other reviewer had problems. I had to angle the lap desk, but it went right in. Only complaint is straps seem a bit stiff but I am quite sure that will go away. This is a LARGE compacity backpack. Larger than I anticipated so it does hold a lot!
