For nearly 90 years, we've been making our authentic Scotch Plaid flannel shirts the way we always have: better than everyone else's. Our exclusive flannel fabric is meticulously woven with longer-staple cotton, which means the individual cotton fibers are about one-quarter inch longer than short-staple fibers, making a huge difference in fabric strength and quality. Then, it's meticulously brushed eight times on each side and given a "touch test" by a master weaver to declare it soft enough.

Always such a great men's flannel shirt
Of the many of these shirts I've bought for my husband over the years, the thing we both appreciated is the consistent fit. At 6 ft. & 190 lbs, an XL regular has always fit beautifully. If there's any shrinkage in laundering, it's minimal. However, the 2 I bought on September 12, 2025, are enormous! They wrap across his chest & the sleeves almost sit at his knuckles. The shirts feel wonderful, but something in the cut & fit process has gone awry! My husband hasn't shrunk. His long lean frame have been suited to these shirts.
Now I don't know whether it's an 'anomaly' & I should still buy XL in future orders, or if I should size down to Large. I haven't found need go launder before him wearing them, but maybe I should in case there's an inordinate amount of shrinkage! LL Bean has changed in other ways, and discontinued items I've bought for myself, but these shirts are unlike the consistent fit to which we've been accustomed.

Mmmm soft!
This is the second of two flannel shirts in this order. They are both new colors this year and they join several other Bean flannel shirts in my closet. This shirt is a Large Tall and the other is XL Regular. The Tall has an extra button to keep the shirt bottom tucked in and the fit is slimmer on me. The Xl fits better but lacks the extra button.

I've been giving this shirt in different plaids to my son -in -law for years. It's his go to shirt. I asked him if he is tired of them but he assured me that he really likes getting a new one every year.

Sizing crazy large
Apparently "regular fit" means you are very overweight. The medium tall swallowed my 6'2 average build husband. Shirt itself is beautiful but I have no confidence in the cut so won't be exchanging, just returning.
