Poor quality zippers, small water bottle pockets
We wanted to like this especially when we saw the reinforcex water bottle pockets. The pockets are very tight and not tall enough. Tall water bottle pockets have been solved by many gear manufacturers. LLBean, please figure this out!
The other issue with this is the zippers on the laptop compartment keep getting caught in the fabric. Not sure if we have a bad bag, but that is definitely a pain point.

Great backpacks for heavy loads
We had the previous incarnation of this backpack and it got heavy use for 4 years before it all but fell apart. Super happy to have this updated version as a replacement. We love the size, quality, compartments, and how easy it is to attach a lunchbox to the front.

Many Useful compartments; Durability not great
We bought this backpack 2 years ago for middle school. The design is great - lots of large useful compartments, easy to get books in an out, a strap to hold your water bottle, phone pocket. They did not have lockers so this bag was carrying 30+ lbs everyday. After only a year the straps were separating from the backpack. She made it through the rest of the year with it, but could not use it again. We ended up buying another one this year for high school. Why? No lockers in high school either. Even though the durability is NOT where it should be, we could not find a better bag than this. If your student is carrying a normal amount of weight, I'm sure this bag would last a long time. If they are carrying half their body weight in it, expect it to only last a few years. If only the straps were more padded and reinforced - it would be the perfect large backpack!
