I can't really rate the boots
Sadly, I am one of the minority of women (as documented in a few other reviews) who can't get my foot past the tongue into the boot. I'm returning them.
Since I haven’t worn the boots, I can't make any comment about sizing, comfort, durability, etc.
Rather than try to exchange for another size by mail, I'll wait till I can get to a Bean store in person-- not easy from New York City without a car, so this will be in the indefinite future.
I'm disappointed-- was looking forward to owning my first pair of these.

Tall boots, lots of lace up - if you need it.
For me and my use (throw them on and go) they were too tall (too many laces to lace). I don’t need them for deep snow, so I returned them for a better pair for my needs. They may be perfect for the others.

In Like, Not Love
I wanted to love this boot but there were a couple of things. I did the recommended size down thing, but went too far. 1/2 size down would have been enough as full size wouldn't have accommodated a sock. Also, and this is no offense to this style, but I had ordered the 8" boot last year. It was fleece lined and in what I was told, a limited run color. The top was burgundy and I loved it so much. Somehow it was just that hair more elevated that allowed me to wear it with more versatility. Not afraid of duck boots and dressed. I sent this style back, but kept a short pair from Bean I ordered to get me through the holiday wet. I'm hoping the designers are listening. Bring back the limited run with the plain fleece inside. It was perfection!

New Favorite Fall Boots!
Finally splurged for a pair during the "try it on" event and they didn't disappoint! Excellent in the fall and I've been very pleasantly surprised as things have gotten very cold (well below freezing now) that they've been able to keep up so far and keep my feet warm enough on my commutes. I did have to get an exchange to a better fitting size but the process was very easy and I had no issues during the process. I did find the standard laces to be somewhat cheap and boring but that was very easy to fix later. Highly recommended!

I got my first pair over 40 years ago and just had to replace them. These shoes are incredible and I would recommend them to anyone. There are lots of choices and options for both men and women. We love LL Bean

My daughter is a fan!
Got these for my 30-something daughter, who is a middle school teacher and has to help run the carline in cold or rainy weather. She loves them: classic, stylish, and they keep her feet warm! She ordered a full size down and they fit just right.
