I had my doubts ...
Needing a waterproof backpack for an excursion cruise visiting Scotland's Hebrides Islands, I found this pack at an L.L. Bean outlet store for a great price. It got some mixed reviews, and I packed a few jumbo ziplock plastic bags in my luggage just in case. I'm happy to report that I didn't need them! In choppy seas that left all the Zodiac passengers on our excursion to Islay soaked to the skin (through our waterproofs), I had a pack full of dry gear even though my pack was sitting in water on the floor of the Zodiac. My traveling companion, who had an expensive dry bag (and one she got a refund for after reporting to the manufacturer on its performance) had miserably wet gear. Thanks, L.L. Bean!

I don’t usually leave reviews but…
We purchased the Stowaway Backpack because the description shows that it comes with a bag/pouch that the backpack folds into (see pictures of teal backpack). There is no such bag and no way for the backpack to “stowaway”. I think that the description is wrong for this product. I’m surprised more reviews haven’t mentioned this.

Great travel bag but could have improved features
I bought this bag as a lightweight backpack to throw in the suitcase and have on days I needed a small backpack and wanted to have something without zippers in case of pick pockets. There is one main pocket, which works really well for a sweatshirt or jacket. It gets 4 stars because the smaller pocket could be larger, as it doesn't hold a phone or even small wallet. I would prefer a key fob too since the inside pocket is so small. I like the fold down, dry bag approach since it is a bit more secure. The side pockets are great for a small water bottle or umbrella. I turned it inside out and threw it in the washing machine - came out clean and good as new.

Rain and Wind Tested
This pack worked great on a week of day hikes in rain and high winds every day. It is basically a dry bag with shoulder and chest straps. Very light - feels like a stuff sack. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a truly waterproof pack.
It has one zippered pocket inside and two stretchy pouches on the outside (one on each side).
Can't say enough about how well this performed in a difficult environment.

So disappointed.
Poor advertising. This product is not stowaway even though it says so in the description and on the product. Very disappointed. Retuned for refund.

Could improve this product.
It is a great size. Appears waterproof. Could use a hip belt if carrying heavier load. It says up to 20 L however that must be with light items.
