Product Details
Originally sold by L.L.Bean in the 1930s as the Hudson Bay axe, it was first used in North America as a trading piece along fur trade routes. This Cruiser axe has a little longer handle for excellent balance. Great for use at the camp or campsite.
- Handle features a prominent grip and a slim body that flexes a bit for better ergonomics.
- Axe head is coated with light oil to prevent rusting.
- Head is 5160 grade alloy steel with a hardness of Rc 52-56.
- Sheath is made from premium leather.
- Handle is Grade A hickory selected for grain orientation and density, which make it super strong.

Professional-grade camp tool
This is actually a Council Tool product, rebranded by LLB. Council Tool makes pro-grade tools for industries that work with wood - forestry, fire-fighting, logging, etc. Their axes are top-level and this one matches that description. The handle has a properly-oriented grain and is solidly held in the eye of the head by one softwood and one metal (steel?) wedges. The axe head itself is well-forged, with a tempered edge for better durability and sharpening retention. The poll - the back of the axe head - is a nice rectangular shape with enough surface area to perform effectively as a hammer. I bought two of these - one for each adult son - and one of them just tested it as a light-duty camp axe. It worked very well. I recommend this product.

The axe head was loose when I received it
I like the axe a lot but I was not pleased to receive it with a loose handle. Had do drill out the steel wedge and remove the wooden wedge and sand down the lip that was formed when the head was installed on the handle. Once I got the the lip sanded down and reinstalled the head with a new wooden wedge and steel wedge the axe now works great with no wiggle/loose head on handle

Save some money
First of all, this is a GREAT axe from an amazing company, hand made in the USA. BUT this is literally just a Council Tool velvecut Hudson Bay axe with a different etching on the handle 140 bucks from Council Tool..... the "L.L. Bean" on the handle is worth 40 more dollars than you can get it from the manufacturer?

The perfect axe
Great size, shape and sharpness. We have a woodstove that we keep going constantly during the winter months and this handy camp axe is perfect for cutting wood and kindling easily and efficiently. This is an heirloom piece we plan to pass down to our children in 30 years.

Great axe!
Smaller size is great for camping and for making kindling. Made in the USA and very high quality. Handle feels great. Very sharp.
