I have been wearing this sweater for many years.
I keep returning to buy another, despite some flaws. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and spend a lot of time outside as I work construction and am an avid outdoorsman. Typically, this is my winter coat for work and pleasure. Despite the reputation for being rainy here, this is my "go to" jacket.
As many have stated, these sizes tend to small, but remember the care instructions say hand-wash only. (Like that is going to happen in my house!) If you plan to wash, even with wool soap on delicate cycle, this sweater WILL shrink. So size up. Washing also improves both the feel and durability of this sweater due to minor felting.
The collar (as several have pointed out) is kind of funky, and isn't comfortable fully zipped.
I find the cotton patches a strange choice. This is my rain sweater, cotton gets soggy. I'm not a fan of synthetic material, but for this application (and like my wool military sweaters) synthetic patches are a good choice.
I am 6' 4" and love these tall sizes. I have a friend 6'8" and he can wear this because he can unfold the cuffs. This is genuinely a "Tall" size, and will disappoint you if you merely aspire to be tall.
My chest is 46" and definitely recommend at least XXL. My zippered version which I use as a jacket, is XXXL and after washing is a comfortable relaxed fit.

Heavy Duty and Comfortably Warm
This sweater was authorized to wear in the USMC during winter season, either in green or black.. For myself, the sweater was a pullover, whereas this sweater zips upfront. L.L. Bean has supplied the same material and look and conformability. Generally worn over Alpha greens. A great sweater to wear in snow or frigid weather. If damp, the sweater does not lose the body's warm insulation. Great for camping and cold hiking.

HMRS - Her Majesty's Royal Sweater
This is the real deal. As soon as I put it on, I felt the change. I heard Sean Connery's growl and knew that we were facing real danger. But I was dressed for it. As far as classics go, this is the best a sweater can be. It is right up there with the Barn Coat and the Boot. Construction and fit are perfect. I suspect this is one piece that will really be generational.

Nice sweater
Looks good, well made. Fit was a bit snugger than I was expecting considering I ordered a 2X Tall.
Only something light will layer under it. Hand washing and laying flat to dry is a pain.

Disappointed quality
The product feels nice but when I was taking it off I heard threads pop. I am a little disappointed as I really like the design but I am wear for fear of it falling apart. (Not military quality)
