No break-in required! Comfy out-of-the-box
TIP: LLBean advises ordering one-half size smaller than your normal shoe size. I called and asked: what if you're wearing thick winter/hiking socks inside these? The answer: in that case, order your normal shoe size. Go one-half size smaller if you'll wear them with regular street socks.
For decades I've wondered abut Bean Boots. I finally splurged on a pair for a recent week-long outdoor trip in known wet environs. They proved to be worth every penny. Very well made (thanks, boot-crafter Kristen, who enclosed a signed note--a nice touch). They are warm and very comfortable to wear. They will keep your feet dry in shallow water and mud and in brief exposures to deeper water if you wear outdoor pants with gaiters.
Note that these are not hiking boots designed to be suitable for extended climbing, as the ankle support is limited. Occasionally I felt a little unsteady climbing wet rocks. But that's not what they're designed for, so that's on me. If they were stiffer-sided for climbing, break-in would be needed; as it is, I can't imagine a more comfortable pair of boots to wear right out-of-the-box.
I can also recommend LLBean Boot Guard (leather dressing) for cleaning and maintenance.

LL Bean is Love LL Bean is Life
The worker that helped me was phenomenal in helping me pick out he right size. Brought out a size I thought I would be just to assure me I fit in the proper boot. The boot itself is great for what’s already a harsh winter. Will continue to be my favorite store.

Why did I wait so long?
I always wanted some real Bean Boots, and finally saved for them.
What a difference. Worth every penny. If you buy nothing else from LLBean, buy these boots!
Waited a year to review. First snow. The shearling is worth it. Pair with their silk long johns for snow yoga. I mean shoveling.
