Disappointed
I was disappointed to see that the pair of Bean boots we bought for our son, to head off to college, did not have a fully gusseted boot tongue. So much for the chance of a waterproof boot to the top of the leather. Gave 3 stars because I have yet to hear from our son on the fit. I have owned a pair of Bean boots for 30 years, without complaint and they have even been resoled.

Still good quality
It has been so dry that I haven't even worn my new boots. Out of the box I can offer three insights:
- Still nice textured leather as I remember Bean footwear as a kid, I would like even thicker.
- The flannel lining has a good feel - it is a thin material.
- All the talk of sizing is true - I ordered a half size down from normal and could have gone a full size down. The extra room will make way for thicker socks.
Looking forward to using in slush and such...Still well made and good looking!

Not even close to “ waterproof “
I’ve purchased 3 different styles over the years and all boots cost me well over $100 They all leak like a sieve period. Where the rubber is stitched up to the leather? Yeah can’t keep water out. I’ve even gone so fare as applying silicone to the seams and threads but still water gets in. Obviously these in how many years where never really field tested. They look cool and okay for tramping around the yard for a few minutes but in the wilderness? Ah, no. They suck. Want something warm and really “waterproof “? Swamp boots or muck type boots. LL Bean boots? Save yourself some money and buy something else

Sizing way off
Order 1-1.5 sizes down from your usual size, not .5, very frustrating this company is nothing what they used to be.

Great boot, sizing is way off…
I normally wear a size 13 sneaker and a 12 dress shoe. Instead of ordering online, I drove a bit to get to an LL bean store knowing I’d have an issue with sizing based on reviews and the fact that I’m between sizes. I started with a 12 and it far too big, as was the 11.5. I ended up in an 11 with medium weight socks. For reference, I was an 11.5 in the unlined boot version. The build quality is excellent and I anticipate having these for some time seeing as they’ll only be worn in fall/winter during inclement weather.
